On May 21, a group of 23 excited students from Foster Elementary School embarked on a field trip to the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve. The outing included third through fifth graders, combining current GATE students with a few who will join the GATE program next year. This excursion was not just an end-of-year celebration but also an educational experience tied to the students' curriculum.
Foster Elementary students delved into the 1,300-acre coastal estuary and its diverse wildlife, engaging in various activity centers designed to enhance their learning. These activities included birdwatching, a sandcastle contest, a seascape art project, and a yoga session on the beach. These hands-on experiences complemented the year's GATE goal of exploring nature.
This trip marked a special occasion, as it was the first field trip for Foster Elementary GATE program in nearly eight years, the last one being to a history museum. The children were thrilled with the opportunity, and their enthusiasm was evident as they participated eagerly in every activity.
"The students absolutely loved it," said Foster Elementary GATE Teacher Mrs. Garcia.
The combination of fun and learning made it a memorable day for all involved, reinforcing the importance of hands-on education. The GATE program is one of the many ways the school district supports enriched learning opportunities for its students.
