Foster Elementary Celebrates Earth Day with School Garden Revamp

In celebration of Earth Day, classrooms ventured into the Foster school garden for hands-on learning activities. Lessons, conducted in both English and Spanish as part of the Dual Language program, encompassed everything from weeding and raking to preparing the soil for planting new seeds and flowers.

Fifth graders from the school’s student council volunteered to educate younger students on the significance of environmental stewardship, emphasizing the importance of cleanup efforts and caring for the planet. With the cleanup completed, students shifted their attention to the garden area, where they received instruction on gardening basics, including the proper use of tools such as gloves, rakes, picks, and watering systems. Together, they worked diligently, pulling weeds and carefully planting flowers to breathe life into their school garden.

Gratitude is extended to the parents of the school community whose generous donations made the planting of new flowers possible. Their support is deeply appreciated by students, staff, teachers, and the broader BPUSD community.

In addition to gardening, teachers organized outdoor creative arts and crafts activities, allowing students to express their creativity while beautifying their surroundings.

Through these immersive experiences, the elementary school not only commemorated Earth Day but also reinforced the importance of environmental responsibility among its students.
